Bare Batana is made deep in the small villages of La Mosquitia, where Honduran women and elders gather the fallen American palm nuts by hand. The fruit is slowly roasted, cracked open, and gently cooked over wood fires for hours until the rich, golden oil rises to the top.


Every batch is stirred with care, passed down through generations, and crafted without machines just skill, patience, and tradition. This is the purest form of Batana, made exactly the way their ancestors taught them.

Batana oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamins

Every batch of Batana made in the villages of La Mosquitia is completely unique. Since it is crafted by hand and comes straight from the American palm nut with nothing added, each batch naturally develops its own texture, color, and consistency. Some turn out thicker, some creamier, and some melt a little softer. That natural variation is one of the clearest signs that it is authentic, because every jar carries the character of the land, the fire, the fruit, and the people who make it.

Is all Batana created equal?

Since real Batana is an organic product, even within the same production batch, slight differences can occur due to the natural variations in the nuts themselves, leading to inconsistencies in the final product.

We tested other popular Batana oils so you didn’t have to! One brand in particular did NOT melt despite of being advertised as unrefined Batana oil.  Here are some things to look out for whether choosing Batana oil. 

Authentic batana oil has a rich, dark brown color, a nutty or smoky scent, and a thick, slightly grainy texture when unrefined.

 Fake or diluted versions may be lighter in color, lack the distinct smell, or feel overly smooth or watery (like a cream). Authentic batana oil melts in warm temperatures. We applied  heat gun test all 3 batana oils and one did not melt, indicating that it was a water based substance

✅Oil is a sealant, so apply to damp, or moisturized/Conditioned hair or directly to scalp

✅Heat a small amount of Batana oil in your palms or a bowl to make it easier to apply. 
✅Apply to Scalp and Hair: Massage the oil into your scalp using your fingertips to stimulate circulation. Then, work it through the lengths of your hair, focusing on the ends (You can also apply this to your skin). Do not use batana on gray or white  hair strands 


✅leave in OR Rinse Out: (Rinsing out is a better option, for type 1-2 hair types) Wash your hair with Protein Pouf sulfate-free shampoo and condition as usual.

Yes, it’s safe for skin. It can be used as a moisture lock for dry areas, improve skin elasticity, and help with scars and blemishes.

5. Is Batana oil suitable for all hair types?

Yes, Batana oil works well for all hair types, including curly, coily, straight, and chemically-treated hair. I do NOT recommend using it on gray/white hair. This will gradually darken the strands 

6. Does Batana oil have a smell?

Raw Batana oil has a distinctive earthy, smoky aroma due to its traditional extraction process. The scent does fade after a few hours. 

7. How often should I use Batana oil?

2–3 times a week is generally effective for hair treatments, but usage can vary depending on your hair’s condition and needs.

8. Is Batana oil the same as palm oil?

No. While both come from palm trees, Batana oil is extracted from the Elaeis oleifera species and processed differently. It’s used primarily for cosmetic purposes rather than cooking.

9. Can Batana oil help with hair loss?

Many users report seeing improvements in thinning and hair loss over time. While it’s not a medically-approved treatment, its nourishing properties may support healthy hair growth.

10. How should I store raw Batana oil?

12. Is Batana oil cruelty-free and sustainably sourced?

Authentic Bare Batana oil from Honduras is traditionally harvested by the Miskito people using sustainable methods. Bare Bantana in particular, is always ethically sourced 

13. What if my batana arrived melted?

If your Batana arrived melted then it most likely melted in a warm transit or has been sitting in the sun. Simply put it in the fridge if you like a more solidified Consistency

Hi, I really wanted these products to work for my son. He has eczema so his scalp is drier than most. I like the spray that made his hair feel good. The oil was a little drying to his scalp after a week of use, it was no longer moisturizing his scalp causing more drying. The lotion is nice but once his scalp absorbs it an hour later he is scratching his head severely. I did see that you have a brown cream with Batana in it. I’ve been keeping it braided down, misting it nightly with SunSplash/cloud mist, and oiling with Batana and my Ayurvedic oil. After that, I wrap it with a satin scarf to help lock in the moisture and nutrients. I deep condition with Batana or Papaya Palooza biweekly or monthly.
